We were wrong. After a number of delays, and our own gazing up to the top six stories of Otemachi Tower without being able to step inside, we thought Aman Tokyo wouldn’t open this year.

It is. On Monday, December 22, the first city Aman will be here, and we have some truly luscious photos for you to drool over too. Kedah Darul Aman: Langkawi’s Rebak Island Gets Upgraded From Taj to Vivanta By Taj

When a decent hotel that was good quality and excellent value rebrands as an ?berluxury property, is that something to celebrate, or commiserate? That’s the question we’re pondering with the news that Taj has rebranded its Rebak Island Resort as a Vivanta by Taj property.

Taj hotels are already really nice. Vivanta by Taj – of which this will be the 29th – are super duper nice. And this one certainly has potential – it’s set on its own 390-acre island 4km off Langkawi proper with its own mini beach. The journey to the Langkawi ‘mainland’, on the hotel’s private launch, is a languid 15 minutes.

Tokyo: Will Aman Tokyo Make a September Opening as the First City Aman?

Aman Resorts might be known for its luxury resorts in exotic locations, but the hotel group should be branching out to its first true city hotel this year, after dipping its toe in the somewhat urban water – quite literally as it were – in Venice.
